Explore practical ideas from history’s most thoughtful minds to help you find clarity, direction, and a little more headspace in a world that often feels overwhelming.
We’re living in a bit of a contradiction:
We have access to all the information in the world, but something still feels off.
We hit the big milestones at work or in our bank accounts, (career, money, status), but still feel empty inside.
We’re capable of so much, but don’t always know how to handle the stress, the burnout, or that feeling of being disconnected and drifting.
Here in San Diego, you see thoughtful, driven people—professionals, creatives, entrepreneurs— building impressive lives, yet quietly wondering if something’s missing. You can build a successful life, but you’re not sure how your work actually helps anyone. You can achieve a lot professionally, but still can’t find peace within yourself. You might have it all “on paper,” but you’re still searching for that one essential thing: the connection to who you really are and what you’re here for.
And the worst part? Nobody teaches you this.
New Acropolis is a school of practical philosophy that’s been around for over 60 years in more than 50 countries. We have one focus:
We don’t promise instant enlightenment or perfection. What we offer is more grounded: a structured path, proven over decades, that teaches you how to check in with yourself and find real clarity on how to live better.
Our course brings together the wisdom of history’s greatest thinkers—from Plato and Marcus Aurelius to Buddha and Confucius—and turns their insights into practical tools for your life.
You will explore how to:
We know you’re busy and your time is valuable. That’s why we’ve designed the Intro Series — three sessions where you can see practical philosophy in action, with zero commitment.
Each session is a chance to:
Meet the community and get a feel for the environment
Experience what a session is like
Ask questions and connect with instructors
See if this approach feels right for you
You’re welcome to attend one, two, or all three. No expectations—just explore at your own pace.
Date: May 12 | Duration: 1.5h | Location: Golden Hill Recreation Center (Room 2), 2600 Golf Course Dr, San Diego
Get a sense of how we explore ideas and what it’s like to be part of the group. This session focuses on self-mastery: how to face your inner challenges, strengthen your character, and grow in a more intentional way.
Date: May 19 | Duration: 1.5h | Location: Golden Hill Recreation Center (Room 2), 2600 Golf Course Dr, San Diego
A second chance to dive in. This is perfect if you missed the first session or just want to see a different angle before deciding. We’ll look at the "caves" we all live in—the habits and influences that shape how we see the world—and how to gain the clarity to choose how you want to live. It’s about letting go of what no longer serves you, and, over time, being able to support others in doing the same.
Date: May 26 | Duration: 1.5h | Location: Golden Hill Recreation Center (Room 2), 2600 Golf Course Dr, San Diego
This is the official starting point. Inspired by the "hero’s journey," we’ll look at what it means to take real responsibility for your own direction. You’ll see exactly how the course unfolds, what the first level includes, and can decide then if you’d like to join us for the rest of the path.
The course is a two-part journey designed to take you from just “thinking” about philosophy to actually living it.
After successfully completing level 1, you can keep the momentum going with the second level. This level lasts 4 months. Order of topics may vary.

"I finally understand why I do what I do
— James Thompson, 38, New York
I entered the course thinking it would be another self-help workshop. I left with a completely different understanding of who I am and what I'm here for. The sessions on Plato and Aristotle changed how I make decisions. Now I have clarity in my tech career.
"I found my community and a sense of belonging"
— María Elena Pérez, 32, Mexico City, Mexico
What impacted me most was realizing I'm not alone in this search. I met incredible people who share the same values. The course left me with genuine friendships and a real support network that accompanies me.
"It changed how I deal with adversity"
— Ana Silva, 45, São Paulo, Brazil
The lessons from the Stoics (Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus) gave me practical tools to deal with difficult moments in my personal and professional life. Now I have more inner peace and less anxiety. I recommend it to anyone who feels something is missing.
"New Acropolis has been an embracing community"
— Dan Munguia, 31, Los Angeles, CA
I often leave class feeling elevated and reassured. I’m glad to have discovered the organization and like-minded souls who are seeking growth and fulfillment.
"I discovered a deeper purpose"
— Kenji Tanaka, 51, Tokyo, Japan
After years of business success, I felt emptiness. The course helped me connect with existential questions and find a purpose beyond the material level. Buddhist philosophy was particularly revealing.
"I strengthened my willpower and capacity for action"
— Chloe Dubois, 29, Paris, France
I was always a reflective person, but often struggled to take action. The teachings on willpower and Confucius's ethics gave me the strength to implement significant changes in my life.
"A new perspective for business challenges"
— David O'Connell, 42, Dublin, Ireland
As an entrepreneur, I face constant challenges. The course provided me with a solid philosophical foundation to approach complex problems with greater clarity and ethics. It's an investment in personal leadership.
"A journey of self-discovery that exceeded my expectations"
— Sofia Rossi, 36, Rome, Italy
I was always interested in philosophy, but never found such a practical approach. The New Acropolis course was a true journey of self-discovery, helping me understand my emotions and live with more authenticity.
"I found a safe space for dialogue, personal growth, friendship, and volunteering"
— Isabel Huaman, 29, Phoenix, AZ
Philosophy has changed my life in positive and meaningful ways, helping me to live with a sense of oneness with others and nature, doing my best, and enjoying life to the fullest.
"I found answers to questions I didn't even know I had"
— Omar Hussein, 48, Cairo, Egypt
Egyptian philosophy and the initiatic mysteries opened my eyes to an ancient wisdom that is incredibly relevant today. It helped me find a deeper meaning to my existence and my contribution to the world.
"Since philosophy I have been happy within"
— Srabani R., 30, Boston, MA
It's not just the classes but the experience of knowing others that have gone through such a transformation. For me it's about the transformation from within.
Have doubts? That’s normal. Especially when you’re investing in yourself. To make it easy, we offer a double guarantee:
Jump into our Intro Sessions and Course Opening with zero obligation to enroll.
If you enroll and decide within the first two weeks from the Course Opening that it’s just not for you, we’ll give you a 100% refund. No questions asked, no hoops to jump through.
Your growth is the whole point. We don’t want you here because you feel stuck with a bill; we want you here because you’re excited about the path you’re on.
We get it—life fills up fast. Between work, hitting the beach, and trying to enjoy your weekend, “perfect timing” is usually a myth. There’s always another priority.
But sometimes, the right opportunity shows up:
We keep things small for a reason. It’s not about marketing games but simply because small groups work better: they allow authentic dialogue, real connection, and personalized guidance. That is why we have only 15 spots for this founding group.
Not at all. The course is designed for everyone, regardless of your background. We start from the basics and build up together. Most of our students have never opened a philosophy book before.
Just 1.5 hours a week for the live session. If you’re feeling inspired and want to dive deeper into the readings or exercises, you totally can, but it’s not required. We know how tight your schedule can become.
Definitely. You’re welcome to join any of our Intro events with zero pressure to enroll. Most people come by just to see what the vibe is like and go from there.
Yes. You’ll have direct access to the instructors and plenty of time for Q&A during sessions. Plus, you’ll be learning alongside a solid group of people to bounce ideas off of. If you ever want to dive deeper, you can ask for some one-on-one time with the instructor to chat outside class.
Life happens. If you miss a session, we’ll get you the review materials and you can always chat with the instructor to catch up. We’re focused on the process, not perfection.
We’ve been around for 68 years in over 50 countries, but our real "secret sauce" is Practical Philosophy. We don't just do theory; we look at how great thinkers can help you live a better, more intentional life today. We’re a global community focused on real-world growth, rather on academic credits.
It’s $100 a month, or you can provide upfront support for the full program at a reduced rate.
We’re keeping this in-person. We’ve found that real dialogue and community are key to the experience, so we resort to online only when there is no other choice. Philosophy is just better when you’re in the same room with people. We're here to build a real-life community right here in SD.
You don’t need to have everything figured out right now. You just need to take that first step.
Check out the Intro Series, get a feel for the school, and decide for yourself.
There’s no commitment to the full course—it’s just an open invitation to explore, ask the big questions, and see what sticks.
P.S. — If you’re still reading, it’s probably because you’re looking for something a bit deeper than the daily grind.
Trust that gut feeling. Come say hi and see what New Acropolis San Diego is all about.
